As a tribute band there is no greater honor than to be able to perform on the same stage as the "real" acts. It's eveen better if you get to hang-out with and hear the stories of a Grammy Award winning band. Just another tuesday for some folks but regular guys like us it's a big deal. Well that is exactly what happened when The Cured was invited down to the beautiful seaside resort town of Mazatlan, Mexico. Our band was prividged share the same stage as 80s Icons "A Flock of Seagulls".
It was a magical weekend. our host went overboard on accomidations. from the time we arrived at the Tijuana airport to the moment we returned we were treated like , well...rockstars! We had the most amazing oceanfront hotel room waiting on us when we settled. It may have been the most spectacular room I have ever stayed in, including Hawaii.
That is just the beginning, we also shared a private dinning room overloooking the Pacific Ocean. We had our own waiter, chef and bartennder. Certainly much more than we deserved and far beyond anything we could have expected.
During the days it was para-sailing, lounging by one of our 6 swimming pools or being drivin around the city by our own private driver and tour guide who shared local tales of the famous "El Chapo"!
The show nights were even better. We opened the first night for an Argentinian band named " Enanitos Verdes" I guess they are famous there or something, but they aren't the nicest guys we've ever played with. They refused to share the dressing rooms or any of the catering with any of the other acts. This of course made us laugh and to be thankful that we were even there.
The second night of Bierfest Mazatlan we opened for " A Flock of Seagulls". Our set went off without a hitch. The crowd was very responsive nd the stage was HUGE! But the coolest thing getting to see our new friends AFOS perform some of the most memorable songs of the entire 80s decade. It was sublime actually.
So we would like to thank Roger Beltan, Mike Score, the entire band and etourage of A Flock of Seagulls ( you guys rock on and off the stage), the staff and promotoers of Bierfest ad the wonderful people of Mazatlan! We can't wait to see you again!
